Happy 2010! Another new year is here fresh with possibilities for renewal. Somehow the air feels crisper and the skies look brighter. I have been thinking a lot these last few days about this next year. Typically, I start with all sorts of resolutions. Some I keep. Some not so much. I am beginning to realize though that the problem for me hinges on the idea that resolutions are often based on negatives. All the yuck we want to change. I am a big believer in getting the negative out there ~ shake it off so it doesn't eat you up inside. However, too much resolve on the bad leaves little room for the good. So I have decided to begin the New Year with some new focus rather ~ some "Refoculations" if you will.
One of these is reading. I want to introduce you to my new friend ~ The Kindle. Every "refoculation" needs a new toy, non? I know, I know. She has been around for a while. Seems I am always last to sign on for a new electronic device. I have been dreaming about her for some time though and must admit I am hooked. . .
Of course, along with downloading new books there are the accessories. There are reading lights, power adaptors, skins, back-up batteries, earphones, extended warranties and COVERS. A girl just has to have a cover to protect her coveted companion. It couldn't be any cover but one that made me smile. I did some Internet searching but didn't find exactly what I wanted so, I decided to pull out the ole' sewing machine and with many sewing tips from my friend, Christine, made my own cover. A little bit shabby. A little bit girlie. A little bit foofy. Perfect for me. Did you hear me sigh?
It was really quite easy and I suspect if you are skilled with the sewing machine, even easier. Just pull out your favorite fabric, a piece of fusible batting (I wanted mine to be fluffy), a pre-made 6" x 8" journal (I bought mine from Barnes & Noble and cut out the inside pages), velcro tabs (use these to secure your reading devise to the inside), some fabulous embellishments and you are good to go.
I hope these first days for 2010 bring some renewed focus to you as well. . .

Happy beginning new year Kim, I am one of those people too that feel so refreshed by the new year. I love knowing the days will be longer Even though Christmas is magical time it can be a bit dark because of the short days and when the days get longer( as in more light )you seen to "think" you have more time to get all your ideas done. I look forward to watching all your 2010 ideas pan out over the coming year. Hugs Julie ---Oh about resolutions yes! everyday always ... to make a difference in the world and be the best I can be for those who count on me.

Very pretty cover! I'm way too old school to get into the kindle!- Maija tried to convert me but i just can't do it...but I admit it is a great, environment-friendly concept! Enjoy!
Hope you have a fabulous New Year filled with inspiration, love and good health!

You let me know when you start selling these, 'cause I want one! Ha! Yeah, I could probably make it, but will I? Probably not. It's so much easier to buy this kind of stuff, isn't it? Fantastic idea! My Kindle has an ugly black cover now. Would love a girlie touch!!!
